Black-painted windows were added throughout the home and a variegated paint color that appears to shift with the light adds depth to the walls. Recessed canned lighting was shunned in favor of more decorative options. The designer says if you’re trying to make a house look amazing and you have young children, this is an easy way to do it because the lights are fixed and unlikely to be damaged by kids. So, even though the pendant light selected for the great room initially seemed too large, the proportions perfectly suit the space and negate the need for any table lamps that could get knocked over by playful children.
